CONDUCTING AN EXPEDITION WITH MEDIA, HUTAMA KARYA SHOWCASES THE CONTINUITY OF PHASE II TRANS-SUMATRA TOLL ROAD DEVELOPME

JAMBI – PT Hutama Karya (Persero) (Hutama Karya) successfully held a a couple day of Media Tour & Briefing: Trans-Sumatra Toll Road Expedition on Friday-Saturday, September 20-21. The event was officially opened by Executive Vice President of Corporate Secretary at Hutama Karya, Adjib Al Hakim, and featured a presentation by Hutama Karya’s Director of Operation III, Koentjoro. Representatives from eight national journalists and four local media from Jambi and South Sumatra attended the event.
Director of Operation III at Hutama Karya, Koentjoro, explained that the event was designed to give media partners a first-hand experience of the 277 km journey from Palembang to Jambi using the national road along the Sumatra route, which currently takes approximately 8 to 9 hours.
“We hope this activity enables the media to educate the public about the urgency of constructing a toll road from Palembang to Jambi. With the toll road, travel time can be reduced significantly to only 2 to 3 hours, including rest stops,” said Koentjoro.
Koentjoro further explained several Phase II segments of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) that will connect the two provinces, including the Kayu Agung – Palembang – Betung Toll Road (Palembang – Betung Section) spanning 69 km, and the Betung (Simpang Sekayu) – Tempino – Jambi Toll Road, which is being constructed in stages and will stretch a total of 170 km.
“Currently, the Bayung Lencir – Tempino segment is 99% complete. God willing, it will be partially operational by next month,” Koentjoro added.
Ongoing construction segments include Section 1A (Betung – Supat, Musi Banyuasin) of the Betung (Simpang Sekayu) – Tempino – Jambi Toll Road with a length of 30.80 km, and Section 4 (Tempino – Ness Interchange) with a length of 18.49 km. These segments are targeted for completion by 2025, provided there are no land acquisition issues and construction continues to adopt digitalization.
The media participants were also invited to observe the project sites directly, receive in-depth updates on the construction progress, and engage in dialogue with project representatives regarding existing challenges and plans. In addition, they had the opportunity to explore the beauty of Jambi city as part of a curated tour program, intended as a form of appreciation and relaxation. This activity is expected to provide the media with a more comprehensive perspective on this National Strategic Project (PSN).
Through this program, Hutama Karya aims to better communicate updates on the JTTS development, while also strengthening its collaborative relationships with media partners. Hutama Karya remains committed to fostering positive synergy with all stakeholders—including the media—in support of more advanced and sustainable infrastructure development.
One of the media tour participants, Hilda Hastuti, expressed that the media tour was exciting and insightful, particularly for allowing participants to experience the national road journey firsthand.
“This clearly shows the need for a toll road, which shortens travel time, connects Palembang – Betung – Jambi, and will stimulate the growth of new economic hubs in the surrounding areas,” she stated.
To date, Hutama Karya has built approximately 1,235 km of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS), including both construction support segments and operational toll roads—390 km under construction and 845 km already operational.
